“And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.” - Genesis 41:46
As a result of this rejection, Potipher’s wife wrongfully accused Joseph. How could this possibly be a part of God’s plan? Is this explainable? It seems as though things went from bad to worse.
There are many Christians who are in this position. People from within and without the fold make wrong accusations, say hateful things, and inflict pain. Should we expect anything different than what Christ suffered?
The Humiliation of Joseph – “And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.” (Genesis 39:20) Following the wrongful accusation, we see the humiliation of Joseph. He was put into prison for the wrongful accusation.
Many do not see how this applies to this day and age. Wrong accusations and hateful speech can lead to humiliation. Is the humiliation deserved? Of course, it is not; yet, God’s people suffer all of the time, and they are humiliated due to accusations of others. The worst of these accusations come from within the household of faith.
The Exaltation of Joseph – “And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.” (Genesis 41:46) – Great comfort can be taken from this verse. In spite of wrong accusations and humiliation, God is in the entire process. If you take time to read Genesis 39 – 41, you will see how many times God is mentioned to be with Joseph and to cause all that he does to prosper.
The exaltation is inevitable after the humiliation for the people of God. God will exalt the humble. He will lift up His child that has been hurt and mal-characterized by people.
Daily Thought(s):
Jesus Christ was wrongfully accused. He was openly humiliated, but one day we will all witness His public exaltation.
The exaltation is so that God would receive the glory. God lifts up the wrongly accused and humiliated so that He would be seen. In all of the trouble you may go through, recognize the inevitable exaltation. The process may not end the way you think it should, but trust God through it all.
Naboth was wrongfully accused, openly humiliated, but his exaltation came through a different means. He died, and in that death, for truth and right, he made his way to the Lord. Do not expect the same exact positions or prestige seen in Joseph’s life, but do expect God’s hand to lift His people up. The accusation and humiliation is not the end. God will lift you up in due time.
